The Press Council (NPC) has praised the Department of State Services (DSS) for releasing two journalists who were wrongfully detained in Jos, Plateau State.
Executive Secretary of the council, Dili Ezughah, expressed his appreciation for this positive change in the relationship between the press and the DSS in a statement released on Monday.
He said the development highlights the importance of the incident as a sign of progress in how the two entities interact.
Ezughah noted that the Director-General of the DSS, Mr. Oluwatosin Ajayi, showed understanding and humility by directly reaching out to the President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Alhassan Yahaya, to apologize for the unwarranted detention of the journalists.

Ezughah also encouraged journalists to uphold their professional standards by adhering to the code of ethics established for Nigerian journalists.
The NPC, responsible for ensuring ethical conduct and high standards in the media, reaffirmed its commitment to guiding journalists in maintaining ethical practices in their work.
