According to accounts circulating online, the suspected criminals stormed the community armed with sophisticated weapons and were allegedly preparing to abduct residents, when they encountered fierce resistance from a group of Niger Delta militants and local youths.
An eyewitness, identified only as a female resident of the community, claimed that the bandits were quickly overwhelmed by the combined efforts of the militants and residents, who rallied together to prevent the attackers from carrying out their mission.
“The men came into the community heavily armed, but they did not expect the response they got,” the eyewitness reportedly said.

“The militants and community members moved quickly, disarmed them and took control of the situation.”
The development reportedly turned the tables on the suspected kidnappers, who were allegedly captured, stripped of their weapons and detained by the militants.
Videos and photographs purportedly showing the suspects in captivity have since surfaced online and are being widely shared on social media platforms and WhatsApp channels.
In some of the footage, the men are seen surrounded by armed individuals believed to be members of a militant group operating in the region.
According to reports, the militants allegedly subjected the suspects to physical punishment before handing them mobile phones to contact their relatives.
The most striking aspect of the incident, however, is the reported demand for ransom.
Sources claim that the militants are demanding ₦50 million for the release of each captive, bringing the total amount sought to ₦300 million.
The reported ransom demand has generated mixed reactions, with many residents expressing satisfaction that suspected kidnappers are now experiencing the fear and uncertainty often endured by their victims.
Residents who spoke online described the incident as a rare reversal of fortunes in a region that has battled years of kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes.
As news of the development spread, social media users flooded comment sections with reactions.
A Facebook user, Eromosele Irabor Kingsley, wrote: “I am disappointed, send them to their ancestors.”
Another user, Stanley Mordi Ononaojoh, commented: “They forgot that Niger Delta was the people that introduced kidnapping to this country; you cannot win them in their own games.”
Similarly, Ubhimiye Frederick expressed support for the development, writing: “I have been rejoicing over this news since morning. The hunter became the hunted.”
Despite the growing online attention, security agencies and the Bayelsa State Government had not issued any official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
The authenticity of some of the circulating videos and claims has also not been independently verified.
