After five days of total blackout, electricity has finally been restored to Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi States following a breakthrough agreement between Kaduna Electric’s management and the two in-house labour unions. The power outage, which left millions in darkness, was triggered by a workers’ strike over the mass sacking of 444 employees.
The crisis took a new turn when Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani stepped in, convening an emergency meeting at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House on Friday, where both parties negotiated until late in the evening.
The intervention led to a resolution, with Kaduna Electric agreeing to review its past actions and work towards a lasting solution.
The unions, which had shut down electricity supply since Sunday, acknowledged the Governor’s role in brokering peace. They also commended Kaduna Electric’s Managing Director, Dr. Umar Abubakar Hashidu, for his commitment to moving the company forward despite the harsh economic climate.

The signed resolution recognized that the dispute stemmed from a communication breakdown and emphasized the need for mutual understanding between management and labour. Both sides agreed on a give-and-take approach to ensure a sustainable working relationship and prevent future disruptions.
The resolution was signed by Dr. Hashidu, along with top labour leaders, including Comrade Wisdom Nwachukwu (NUEE Vice President, Distribution), Comrade Rilwanu Shehu (Deputy President North, SSAEAC), Comrade Muhammed Musa (Deputy President North, NUEE), and Comrade Haruna Ahmed Tinau (Deputy Secretary General, North). Also signing was Engr Idris Ahmed Idris, Managing Director of Kaduna Power Supply Company.
