The police have succumbed to public pressure and released Omoyele Sowore from detention following widespread protests.
Sowore posted his release on his social media handle Friday night, after a media event organized by the police at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he was being held.
Sowore criticized the police for what he deemed an unjust arrest, asserting that both the police and President Bola Tinubu lack credibility.
He also condemned Tinubu for supporting the violent and unlawful actions taking place under his administration.
In the video, Sowore urged the police and the federal government to set aside their pride and apologize for his illegal and violent arrest, warning that it could lead to serious consequences.

The press event, which the police intended to use to demonstrate that Sowore was being treated fairly, quickly turned chaotic on Friday.
The commissioner of police, who had brought journalists and activists to meet Sowore, abruptly ordered them to leave after the activist used the opportunity to demand the immediate dismissal of the “illegal” Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, stating that they were wasting the media’s time.
While the police aimed to refute allegations of mistreatment and assault, the meeting became confrontational, further escalating calls for Sowore’s release.
