The Nigeria Police Force is under intense scrutiny following a viral video that captured armed officers trailing Nollywood actress Angela Okorie during her morning jog. The footage, which has stirred widespread outrage on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), has sparked renewed concerns over police professionalism and the misuse of security operatives by celebrities and VIPs.
In the trending clip, the officers are seen walking closely behind the actress in what many have described as an unnecessary and inappropriate display of power. The incident, believed to have occurred near a movie set, raised serious questions about the intent and propriety of the officers’ presence, with viewers unsure whether it was part of a film shoot or a real-life scenario gone wrong.
Reacting to the growing backlash, Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi described the officers’ behavior as inconsistent with the high standards of discipline and decorum expected from personnel of the Nigeria Police Force. He confirmed that the Force has commenced internal investigations to identify the officers involved and determine the exact circumstances that led to the incident.
Social media users have not held back in their criticism. One user, @shola_olishola, questioned the priorities of the police, asking why officers continue to guard influential personalities despite directives from the Inspector General of Police to limit such assignments. “When are you going to enforce the orders of the IGP that policemen should be withdrawn from all ‘VIPs’ in Nigeria?” he asked.

Another user, @Abidemi95, condemned the Force’s reaction as performative, calling the condemnation “shameful” and accusing police authorities of failing to conduct proper investigations before issuing statements. “No wonder Nigerians don’t take you people seriously,” he wrote.
User @NPC_Delta focused on the systemic issue of poor training within the Force, stating, “Always frowning at police officers. Is it that the officers don’t have sense or are they not properly trained? I think it’s high time the NPF reiterated the importance of thorough training.”
Perhaps the most scathing remark came from @Etuka_Agbo, who lamented how the police are often seen parading themselves around celebrities and politicians like personal bodyguards. “In this country, just get influence and money. Our police will turn into commandos for you,” he tweeted.
While it remains unclear whether the officers’ actions were part of a film production or a case of misuse of state security, the Police Force has pledged to conduct a full investigation. Adejobi assured that appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken against those found culpable.
The incident has reignited national conversations about police reform, the abuse of security privileges by high-profile individuals, and the urgent need to rebuild public trust in the Force. Adejobi emphasized that the Police remains committed to professionalism and accountability, vowing to take all necessary steps to uphold the integrity of the institution and reinforce confidence among Nigerians.
