The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced a statewide ban on the burning of used tyres during crossover night activities marking the New Year celebrations.

The directive was issued by the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, and communicated in a statement released on Tuesday in Lafia by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel.

According to the statement, the commissioner has instructed all area commanders and divisional police officers to enforce the ban strictly across the state, warning that violators will be arrested and prosecuted in line with existing laws.

Mohammed explained that the measure is aimed at protecting critical government and private infrastructure from damage, curbing environmental pollution, ensuring public safety, and maintaining the free flow of traffic during the festive period.

He also directed vulcanisers operating within the state to ensure that used tyres are properly disposed of or removed from their premises at the close of business each day to prevent unauthorised access by members of the public.

In addition, parents and guardians were advised to caution their wards against engaging in tyre burning or other unlawful activities during the New Year celebrations.

The police commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the Nasarawa State Police Command to ensuring a peaceful, safe, and hitch-free New Year celebration for residents of the state.
