The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has intercepted a three-man gang and recovered locally made firearms during a routine stop-and-search operation along Ikot Road.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, and made available to journalists in Uyo on Thursday, the successful operation is part of an intensified effort to rid the state of illegal firearms and criminal elements.
“Operatives of the Command intercepted a Mercedes Benz C300 with a customized plate number, FORBES JR, leading to the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm and two live cartridges,” the statement revealed.
The arrest took place at the Control Post in Ikot Ekpene, as officers executed a targeted search aimed at curbing crime and ensuring public safety.

The three suspects, identified as Nsisong Paul Okon, 27, from Itak Village in Ikono Local Government Area; Francis Forbes, 62, from Ikot Akpa Edok Ndiya Village; and Prince Forbes, 27, also from Ikot Akpa Edok Ndiya Village, were immediately taken into custody for further investigation.
Following the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba M. Azare, has ordered a full-scale investigation to uncover the suspects’ possible involvement in other criminal activities.
“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command reaffirms its zero tolerance for unlawful possession of firearms and remains resolute in ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state,” DSP John emphasized.
