The Delta State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping and armed robbery, killing two suspected kidnappers, arresting several others, rescuing five kidnapped victims, and recovering ₦4.1 million ransom, firearms, and ammunition from October 2025 to date.
Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, disclosed this on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, while briefing journalists at the command headquarters, Asaba.
“On November 1, 2025, at about 1000 hours, we received a distress report that armed hoodlums attacked a man at Obinomba community, while he was conveying his sister on a motorcycle. The assailants, armed with guns, whisked the female victim into the bush,” he said.
According to him, police operatives from Obiaruku Division, working with local vigilantes, trailed the kidnappers into the Ibinomba Forest, where a fierce gun duel ensued.

“One of the suspects was fatally wounded during the exchange of fire, and the victim was rescued unhurt.
“We recovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 12 rounds of live ammunition,” he said, adding that the injured suspect was confirmed dead at the hospital.
Abaniwonda further revealed that another suspected arms dealer and kidnapper, Ahmed Ibrahim, was arrested in Warri with a large cache of ammunition.
“The suspect is a notorious arms peddler linked to several high-profile kidnapping and armed robbery cases,” he said.
The police boss disclosed that Ibrahim and his female accomplice, one Jamila Abubakar, were apprehended following credible intelligence from the Force Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU), Abuja.
“We recovered 115 rounds of 7.63mm AK-47 ammunition, 220 rounds of SMG ammunition, and 32 live cartridges. Acting on further intelligence, our men recovered one AK-47 rifle buried in the bush,” he added.
In another breakthrough, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad arrested three suspects in Anambra State over the abduction of two persons in Asaba on October 3, 2025.
The Commissioner said that “the suspects—Ndianefo Cypre, Onwe Sunday, and Uzoma Ifeanyi—were traced to Ihiala and Nnewi in Anambra State. We recovered ₦4.1 million ransom money from them.”
He also reported the rescue of three victims kidnapped at Ubeji community, near Warri.
“Our operatives cordoned off the area and arrested seven suspects—Felix, Solomon, Tony, David, Jerry, Godspower, and Edewho Omone—who had held three men captive. The victims were rescued safely and reunited with their families,” he said.
Highlighting the command’s overall achievements for the month, Abaniwonda said: “Between October and now, we have recovered 13 firearms, 591 rounds of ammunition and cartridges, rescued five kidnapped victims, arrested 77 suspects, and recovered three vehicles.”
He appealed to residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with the police.
