The Lagos State Police Command has granted bail to the Senior Pastor and Founder of the House on the Rock Church, Paul Adefarasin, following his interrogation over his alleged possession of a gun.

The development comes in the wake of a viral video that depicted Adefarasin pointing a suspicious object at a content creator while behind the wheel of his vehicle.

On Tuesday, Adefarasin voluntarily presented himself to the police in Lagos for questioning, in relation to the incident.

The viral video on social media showed Adefarasin lowering the tinted window of his luxury Range Rover and directing a gun-like object towards the content creator before accelerating away.

The footage prompted an outcry among social media users, many of whom expressed outrage over what they perceived as the pastor’s possession of a firearm.

In response to the escalating controversy, Adefarasin firmly denied allegations that he was wielding a gun.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the police clarified that the object seen in the video was not a firearm, but rather a stun gun.

Stun guns, which are portable and battery-operated self-defense devices, are designed to incapacitate an assailant by delivering a high-voltage electrical shock.

Although they are classified as non-lethal weapons, the use of stun guns can still result in serious injuries and is considered controversial in many jurisdictions.

The police statement detailed the circumstances surrounding Adefarasin’s detention: “Paul Adefarasin, who turned himself in today at the Lagos State Police Command over a viral video where he was seen holding a gun-like object against another road user, was interrogated and provided a cautionary statement to the police investigators.

“What was recovered from him, the gun-like object depicted in the viral video, is not a lethal weapon or firearm but a stun gun, which is categorized as prohibited anti-riot equipment.”

After the interrogation, the police confirmed that Adefarasin has been granted bail, allowing him to await further developments while the investigation into the incident continues.

“The pastor has been granted bail while investigations proceed into the case,” the statement concluded.
