The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area have regained their freedom.

Key Highlights:

  • Oyo Police say reports of rescued abducted schoolchildren and teachers are false.
  • Victims were taken from schools in Orire LGA (Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota).
  • Police confirm rescue operations are still ongoing.
  • Public warned against spreading unverified social media claims.
  • Authorities urge reliance on official updates only as efforts continue.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, described the report as false, misleading, and without any factual basis.

The police said there had been no such development and urged members of the public to disregard the viral messages.

The victims were abducted during an attack on schools in the Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities of Orire Local Government Area. The incident involved pupils and teachers from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele; and L.A. Primary School.

According to the police, rescue efforts remain ongoing, with security agencies deploying all available resources to secure the safe release of the victims and bring those responsible to justice.

“The Command wishes to categorically debunk the viral messages currently circulating across various social media platforms alleging that the pupils and teachers abducted from Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities have been released by their abductors,” the statement said.

The Command warned against the spread of unverified information, noting that false reports could create panic, undermine ongoing security operations, and threaten public order.

Police authorities urged residents to rely only on official information released by the Nigeria Police Force and other authorized government agencies.

The Command also reassured families of the victims that security operatives remain committed to achieving the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers and promised to provide timely updates as the situation develops.

The clarification comes amid heightened public concern over the mass abduction, which has drawn reactions from government officials, lawmakers, civil society groups, and residents across Oyo State.
