The Delta State Police Command has arrested a youth leader and five others for offences ranging from illegal possession of firearms, armed robbery and kidnapping.
The youth leader and another suspect are in police custody for illegal possession of firearms, while the other four suspects are members of a gang that specializes in armed robbery and kidnapping.
According to a statement released by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the arrests were made following intelligence-led operations carried out by the Ekpan Police Division in Warri.
“On March 15, 2025, officers from the Ekpan Police Station, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Aliyu Shaba, apprehended Victor Edavwe, the youth president of Ekpan community, over suspicions that he had recently acquired an AK-47 rifle.
“Acting on intelligence, officers raided a location on Shrine Street, Ekpan, where Edavwe was arrested.
During interrogation, Edavwe provided information that led the police to the house of a suspect identified as Efe, also known as ‘Eteyomo.’
“A search of the premises uncovered an AK-47 rifle, a single-barrel gun, 44 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, three cutlasses, and two daggers.

“The items were found hidden in a black sack on the roof of the sitting room. Both suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue,” the police said.
SP Edafe added that in a separate operation on March 16, 2025, police arrested four suspected armed robbers and kidnappers in the Jeddo area of Okpe Local Government Area.
He said acting on gathered intelligence, Aliyu Shaba led a team to apprehend Endurance Oghoghome, Blessing Oghoghome, Marvellous Dissy, and Jonas Orogho.
“A subsequent raid on their hideout in Jeddo community led to the recovery of one automatic English pump-action gun, two locally made single-barrel guns, one locally fabricated Beretta pistol, a cut-to-size gun, and a live cartridge.
“The suspects are currently in police custody, with further investigations underway.
“The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, Olufemi Abaniwonda, praised the officers for their dedication in tackling crime.
“He also acknowledged the support and appreciation from the residents of Jeddo, who expressed relief following the arrests.
“The police have assured the public of their continued commitment to making Delta State safer by clamping down on criminal elements,” the statement added.
