The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of Ezekiel Samaila, over accusations of being a wizard.
Samaila (45), reportedly went missing on September 24, 2024, after leaving his home in Nera Village to watch a football match.
His body was thereafter discovered the next day, along a roadside near his residence, with his motorcycle and mobile phone missing.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Bauchi State, Ahmed Wakil, in a statement said detectives from the State Intelligence Department (SID), swiftly launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of one of the suspects, Ezekiel Simon.
Wakil revealed that Simon was found in possession of the victim’s mobile phone and upon interrogation by police detectives, confessed to collaborating with Lumana Zakka to commit the crime.
During questioning by detectives, Zakka, disclosed that he attacked Samaila out of vengeance, blaming him for the deaths of several family members, including his mother, two sisters, and two daughters.

The police, further stated that the suspects used a pestle to repeatedly strike Samaila on the head, resulting in his death.
“Further investigations revealed that the suspects sold the victim’s motorcycle for ₦400,000. Efforts are underway to recover the stolen motorcycle.
“The suspects will face charges of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and culpable homicide under Sections 97, 85, and 221(a) of the Penal Code,” the police added.
While calling on members of the public with additional information to assist in the ongoing investigation, the state Police Commissioner,, Auwal Mohammed, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, safeguarding lives, and ensuring public safety.
