A 19-year-old man identified as Aliyu Yaro, has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly killing his three-day-old baby boy.
The incident, which led to his arrest, was said to have occurred in Kwacham area of Mubi Local Government Council of the state.
Confirming the incident and subsequent arrest of the suspect, the Adamawa State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya, said the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation by detectives.
Yahaya revealed that the suspect told detectives that he had impregnated his girlfriend, Safiya, who later gave birth to the baby boy who was murdered.

Following the birth of the newborn, Safiya urged Aliyu to take responsibility for the child, repeatedly calling him to collect the newborn.
The police spokesperson added that Aliyu further claimed that Safiya had severally threatened to abandon the baby if he refused to take responsibility and provide for him.
“Aliyu stated that he went to Safiya’s house late at night after receiving her call. Upon arrival, he asked her to fetch water, and while she was away, he took the baby.
“He attempted to care for the infant by feeding him milk when he cried. However, the next day, the baby reportedly died.
“Aliyu further revealed that he buried the baby alone around 9:00 pm at a location in Girpata, Mubi,” the police spokesperson stated.
The police image-maker in Adamawa State added that the state Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, has ordered the transfer of the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution of the suspect.
The ongoing investigation into the crime, Yahaya said is geared towards uncovering further details surrounding the incident and to determine any additional charges.
