The Super Falcons camp at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, is allegedly a bit unsettled following the inability of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to upset the bonuses of the players The Trumpet gathered.
According to a British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reporter, Osasu Obayiuwana, the bonuses owed the Falcons is a minimum of $10,000 with the NFF only paying $1000.
Obayiuwana, who was a member of the NFF Reform Committee and former Anti Racism Taskforce of the International Association of Football Federation (FIFA), stated that Nigeria’s senior women’s football team boycotted a training session following the NFF’s inability to upset their bonuses.
“The Super Falcons boycotted training this morning, ahead of their WAFCON2022 third-place match against Zambia,” the BBC correspondent tweeted on Wednesday.
“The Super Falcons’ players have reportedly received $1k of the minimum $10k they’re entitled to. Coach Randy Waldrum got $2k and assistant coaches $1.5k. Backroom staff got $1k each. When will they be paid the remaining cash?,” Obayiuwana asked?
Obayiuwana in his vituperation against the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and Nigeria Football Federation, under the stead of
Hon Sunday Dare and Amaju Melvin Pinnick respectively, lampooned both institutions for towing a path that degrades the country’s reputation.

He said, “How come that nearly 25 years after, Super Falcons are going through the same indignities? The same humiliations? How insensate and wicked can NFF and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports be doing this for a quarter of a century, to these patriotic, gallant women?”
“Do people in Nigeria realise that the failure to pay Super Falcons’ allowances & bonuses started right from 1998, when they won their first WAFCON? Let Marvellous Mercy & Florence Omagbemi tell you their tales of woe, from that time. You will weep,” the former NFF committee member added.
The Super Falcons against Morocco, lost 5-4 on penalties at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Monday having valiantly tamed the attack of the host team despite conceding two second-half red cards.
However, Obayiuwana in a recent update, added that the Falcons have been paid $2800 per player and expect all the accrued allowances cleared,
adding that South Africa pay Banyana Banyana at due time.
The British-Nigerian reporter criticised the NFF President, Amaju Pinnick for flying a private jet to Port Harcourt to join in the official presentation of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title to Rivers United for winning the 2021-22 season when the Super Falcons’ bonuses were yet to be paid in full.
