The Acting Controller General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Dr. Karebo Pere Samson has warned Nigerians against storage of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol in their homes. Adding that petrol is highly inflammable and if not handled carefully, could cause explosion.

The warning became necessary as Nigerians hunt for available petrol as scarcity of the product hits harder on the nation.

In a statement by FFS’ Public Relations Officer, ACF Abraham Paul, the acting Controller General on Wednesday said storing petrol at home will endanger the lives of citizens in such neighborhood.

“Nigerians must resist the temptation of storing PMS in their homes or other confined places due to the current challenge of scarcity, as doing that will endanger their lives and that of others.

“As we all know, children like to experiment, so storing PMS at home could be putting them at high risk especially if it is within their reach,” Dr Samson said.

He explained that Invariably there is always a risk of a fire outbreak or an explosion, if there is an electrical spark or a source of ignition close to such a naked flame

The Ag. Controller General stressed that Nigerians should avoid any act which could lead to fire outbreak in their environment. Adding that fire outbreaks are destructive to both lives and properties.
