Popular Nigerian content creator Peller has issued a public apology following widespread criticism over remarks he made about civil servants during a recent trip to the Maldives.
The controversy began after a viral video showed the influencer suggesting that the destination was “not for civil servants,” while disclosing that he spent about ₦30 million on the luxury vacation. The comment triggered strong reactions across social media, with many Nigerians describing it as dismissive and insensitive.
In a follow-up video, Peller said he did not fully understand the meaning of civil servants at the time he made the statement and appealed for forgiveness.
He explained that he picked up the phrase from a car dealer in Abuja and used it without grasping its implications.
The influencer also expressed concern about how the backlash could affect his future participation in the National Youth Service Corps, noting that he intends to serve and hopes the incident will not count against him.
His apology has drawn mixed reactions online. While some users criticised his lack of understanding of a widely known term, others have called for leniency, citing his clarification and willingness to admit error.
The episode highlights the growing scrutiny faced by public figures in Nigeria, particularly on social media, where comments can quickly escalate into national conversations with wider personal and professional implications.
