Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for approving the conversion of the newly reconstructed General Hospital, Kumo, to a federal medical centre.
Gov. Yahaya described the move as a transformative step that will enhance healthcare delivery in Gombe State, and the entire North East region.
He emphasized that the upgraded facility, now under the federal government’s administration, would significantly boost the state’s health sector, and serve as a teaching hospital for medical students from the Federal University of Kashere, and Lincoln University, Kumo.
“This development will no doubt enhance the delivery of quality healthcare services to our people in Gombe State, and neighboring states.
“With this 200-bed ultra-modern facility now set to operate as a federal medical centre, we are confident it will provide comprehensive medical care, and produce highly trained healthcare professionals to strengthen our workforce,” the governor said.
Gov. Yahaya reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure, highlighting ongoing projects such as the remodeling of the Gombe Specialist Hospital, upgrades to general hospitals in Bajoga and Kaltungo, the construction of a new general hospital in Kumo, and the revitalization of 114 primary healthcare centres across the state.
