Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to building an inclusive society that champions diversity, equity, and the empowerment of persons with disabilities. Speaking in commemoration of the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the governor celebrated the resilience and determination of individuals with disabilities, vowing to create an environment where their aspirations can flourish.
Highlighting this year’s theme, “Amplifying the Leadership of Disabled People for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” Governor Yahaya emphasized the importance of empowering Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to unlock their full potential. He revealed plans to establish a dedicated agency to prioritize their welfare, rights, and inclusion in policy making processes.
“We are taking significant steps to ensure the aspirations of PWDs are fully realized, including the establishment of an agency specifically designed to address their unique needs,” he announced, adding that a bill to formalize this initiative had recently been passed by the State House of Assembly.

Once signed into law, the agency will serve as a transformative institution, advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities while creating pathways for their empowerment and active participation in societal development. Governor Yahaya stressed that the agency’s mission is to institutionalize long-term support mechanisms to enhance the quality of life for PWDs across Gombe State.
“This agency will not only champion the rights of persons with disabilities but also ensure their inclusion in every aspect of our society’s growth and development,” he stated, underscoring the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance.
The governor also called on the disability community to embrace the state government’s policies and programs aimed at ensuring equal opportunities for all. Praising their strength and determination, he reiterated his administration’s resolve to foster an inclusive and supportive environment that uplifts everyone, regardless of their abilities.
