A founding leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), in Delta State and the party’s 2015 governorship candidate, Olorogun Otega Emerhor, OON has welcomed Oborevwori’s historic move, describing it as a game changer. This is following the defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, top leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and their massive support base into the ruling party.
In a statement personally signed by Emerhor and addressed to Governor Oborevwori, he praised the governor’s bold and pragmatic decision to align Delta with the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying the defection marks a new era of political progress and development for the state.
“This is a historic and momentous occasion. Delta has finally become a governing APC state, and I welcome you, your supporters, and the leadership of Delta PDP into the APC progressive family,” Emerhor said. “Your bold move has made the long-held vision of aligning Delta with the mainstream of national politics a reality.”
Emerhor, who has been instrumental in building the APC structure in Delta since 2013, noted that the defection has resolved the internal leadership crisis that had plagued the Delta APC for years. According to him, Governor Oborevwori now has the platform to lead a unified and integrated APC that can deliver at all levels in the 2027 elections.
He emphasized that the strategic switch is not only a personal political triumph for Oborevwori but also a massive win for Delta State. “Now, Delta is directly connected to the APC-led federal government. We finally have a governor with a seat at the national table, a voice at the Progressive Governors’ Forum, and a mandate to champion the cause of Deltans without the limitations of being in opposition,” he stated.

Emerhor also extended a warm welcome to former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who played a critical role in orchestrating the realignment. “Ten years ago, we were political combatants. Today, providence has brought us to the same winning team. I salute you, Your Excellency,” he said.
The political realignment has not gone unnoticed at the national level. Emerhor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for endorsing and facilitating the strategic move, describing it as a clear demonstration of the President’s love for Deltans and commitment to inclusive governance.
With this development, Delta becomes a key state under APC control in the South-South region, potentially altering the dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections. Analysts believe this political shakeup could reframe electoral calculations and usher in a wave of federal investments and political leverage for Delta.
“This is not just a shift in party allegiance; it is a power move that redefines Delta’s place in national politics,” Emerhor concluded.
As Deltans process this unexpected but monumental political twist, all eyes are now on the state’s new APC leadership to deliver on the promises of unity, progress, and inclusion.
