Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has celebrated historic leap in education performance, just as Osun soared in WAEC ranking, with the state climbing from 33rd position to 7th in the national WAEC/NECO rankings within three years, Adeleke described the achievement as a record-breaking milestone not seen in nearly two decades.
“This is a moment of pride for every Osun citizen. I promised to deliver quality education, and we are delivering. For the first time in 18 years, Osun has emerged as a top-performing state in national exams. This is solid evidence that our education revival efforts are working,” the governor declared.
According to the latest statistics from the 2025 WAEC results, Osun State recorded a 71% success rate, with over 29,000 students earning five or more credits, including Mathematics and English Language. Governor Adeleke noted that female candidates from Osun ranked 6th nationwide, while their male counterparts secured the 10th spot, showcasing the balanced and inclusive approach of his administration to educational advancement.

The governor didn’t stop at national achievements, he also spotlighted Osun’s growing presence on the global stage. He proudly revealed that Osun students clinched the top prize at the Malaysia International Debate in 2024, and will be representing Africa at the prestigious AI Robotics Competition in Dallas this May. They also earned second place in the National Sewing Competition and emerged as the best-performing state in the NELFUND Education Loan Assessment.
Adeleke attributed this progress to sustained investments across all levels of the education sector, from tertiary institutions like Osun State University and UNILESA to the state’s polytechnics, colleges of education, and technical institutes. He affirmed that while the progress is commendable, the journey is far from over.
“My ambition is for Osun to become the number one education state in Nigeria. With the continued support of our people, I believe we can reach that summit. Osun is not just rising, we are setting the pace for others to follow,” he concluded.
