The Osun State Police Command has revealed that Afrobeats star Davido was allegedly the target of the attack on Governor Ademola Adeleke’s convoy in Osogbo on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
The incident occurred shortly after Adeleke received his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and headed to the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo.
Davido and some of the governor’s children were reportedly part of the convoy when suspected gang members allegedly opened fire, forcing the governor’s security personnel to engage them in a gun duel.
According to the police, preliminary investigations showed that members of the Eye Confraternity were allegedly attempting to gain access to Davido.
The command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, identified one of the suspects as Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as “Small Rugged”.
Ojelabi described Taoreed as an ex-convict, suspected notorious thug and alleged member of the Eye Confraternity.
He said Taoreed allegedly attempted to gain access to Davido but was stopped by members of the singer’s security team.
The confrontation reportedly attracted other suspected gang members in the area, who allegedly blocked the entrance to the palace and obstructed the movement of the governor’s convoy.
The situation subsequently escalated, resulting in a gun battle between the suspected gang members and security personnel attached to the governor.
The police also confirmed that a 60-year-old man, identified as Tajudeen Yusuf, was shot during the incident.
According to Ojelabi, the suspected gang members allegedly left the area before shooting Yusuf at Itaolokan area of Osogbo.
Police officers were reportedly dispatched to the scene after receiving information about the shooting and found Yusuf lying in a pool of blood.
