Troops from the Joint Task Force (North East), stationed in Goniri under Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI, successfully thwarted coordinated assaults by ISWAP terrorists on their base in Yobe State, resulting in the deaths of more than 20 militants.

The attacks took place from the night of Monday, March 9, 2026, into the early hours of Tuesday, March 10, 2026, when the troops faced heavy fire from multiple directions.

This information was disclosed in a statement by the spokesman for Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba.

The terrorists were initially spotted through surveillance as they advanced simultaneously from Goniri village and the Ngamdu junction, seemingly trying to encircle the military position. The alert and courageous troops quickly responded with superior firepower and tactical maneuvers, effectively coordinating their defense.

Reinforcements were swiftly deployed, and the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI provided crucial close air support, significantly diminishing the terrorists’ combat effectiveness. During the fierce firefight, the militants were overwhelmed and forced to retreat in chaos, suffering heavy losses. Over 20 insurgents were killed, including a senior commander known as Abu Yusu, the Munzir of Dursula.

After the failed assault, troops recovered several bodies of the terrorists along with weapons and equipment left behind during their retreat. The recovered items included multiple machine guns, AK-47 rifles, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), bombs, and various types of ammunition.

Subsequent operations by troops in the Gwaigomari area within the Timbuktu Triangle led to the discovery of additional terrorist bodies during follow-up patrols conducted until the early hours of Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

Injured troops were promptly evacuated for medical care and are currently in stable condition. The area remains firmly under the control of Operation HADIN KAI forces. Ground troops, supported by the Air Component, are actively conducting follow-up operations in the surrounding regions. Ongoing search and clearance operations are taking place in nearby communities where some wounded insurgents are believed to have escaped.

Operation HADIN KAI remains dedicated to the complete eradication of terrorism and the establishment of lasting peace and security in the North-East region. The Military High Command praised the troops for their bravery and resilience, encouraging them to maintain their operational momentum.
