OPay Digital Services Limited has dismissed reports claiming its offices in Lagos and Abuja were sealed by the Nigeria Revenue Service over alleged tax non-compliance, describing the claims as false and misleading.
The reports circulating on social media and some online platforms had alleged that the tax authority sealed the company’s offices over failure to comply with Value Added Tax (VAT) and Company Income Tax obligations under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025.
However, OPay clarified in a statement on Thursday that its offices across Nigeria remain open and fully operational, adding that services to customers, partners and merchants continue without disruption.
“Our offices across Nigeria, including Lagos and Abuja, remain open and fully operational, and we continue to serve our customers, partners, and merchants without disruption,” the company said.
The fintech firm stated that it complies with all applicable tax and regulatory obligations and maintains transparent engagement with relevant government authorities.
According to OPay, the notice referenced in the reports resulted from an industry-wide directive issued by the Nigeria Revenue Service to payment platforms. The directive requested operators to separately display certain statutory charges on their applications to improve reconciliation and transparency.

The company explained that the directive affects multiple operators in the digital payments sector, not OPay alone.
“The suggestion that the notice indicates non-payment of taxes is therefore factually incorrect and misleading,” the statement noted.
OPay also criticised what it described as the selective singling out of the company in a matter affecting the broader payments industry, warning that such reports could damage its reputation.
The firm reiterated that it works closely with regulators to ensure its operations meet statutory standards while continuing to support Nigeria’s growing digital economy.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the information currently circulating online suggesting that OPay is shutting down or our offices have been shut down should be disregarded, as it does not reflect the true situation,” the company added.
OPay reaffirmed its commitment to providing secure, reliable and inclusive financial services to millions of users across Nigeria.
