The argument ensued between two football lovers, Saifullahi Abdullahi, 28, and Idris Yusuf, 18, over which is a better European team between Chelsea and Barcelona football clubs.

But the argument degenerated into a fight which led to the death of Abdullahi, and Yusuf was arrested by the police thereafter.

According to the police report, Yusuf is now facing a culpable homicide charge in accordance with Section 190(4) of the State Penal Code Law, 2021.

The police revealed that the incident happened on December 18, 2021, and that Saifullahi’s father, Abdullahi of Kofar Garbas Quarters, Danja, reported the incident at the Danja Divisional Police headquarters on December, 20, leading to Yusuf’s arrest.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Lawal Bello, told a Katsina Senior Magistrate Court where Yusuf was arraigned on Monday that the latter was involved in an argument with Saifullahi on the day of the incident when it degenerated into a fight between the two.

Sergeant Bello said Saifullahi collapsed and became unconscious during the fight, and was rushed to Danja Comprehensive Health Centre where he was later pronounced dead.

The First Information Report on the incident that was also read in the magistrate court stated that “on December 18, 2021 at about 3.30 p.m, Saifullahi Abdullahi, 28, had an argument with you, Idris Yusuf, 18, of Hayan Asibiti Quarters, Danja over which football club is the most powerful and the best between Chelsea F.C and Barcelona F.C in the European Championship.

“Hence, it resulted to a fight during which the said Saifullahi Abdullahi collapsed and became unconscious. Consequently, the victim was rushed to Danja Comprehensive Health Centre where he was admitted and later died while receiving treatment, with a confirmation by a medical doctor.”

The police prosecutor told the presiding Senior Magistrate, Hajia Fadile Dikko, that investigation was already in progress on the incident.

He sought a new date that the case could come up for mention before the court.

Hajiya Dikko granted the request and adjourned the case till March 7 for the mention, and directed that Yusuf be remanded in a Katsina Correctional Centre till the said date.
