The Social Democratic Party (SDP) senatorial candidate for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Olanrewaju Osho, has urged residents to elect their next senator based on competence, accountability and clear development plans rather than ethnic, religious or other sentimental considerations.
Osho made the appeal in a statement issued on Sunday titled “A Time to Pause, Think and Rethink,” in which he called on voters to carefully assess the capacity and commitment of candidates ahead of the next elections.

Osho Raises Concern Over FCT Development Challenges
Osho expressed concern over the development challenges confronting the six area councils of the FCT, arguing that the territory had fallen short of the vision of its founding figures.
Reflecting on the contributions of former Head of State Murtala Muhammed and Justice Akinola Aguda to the establishment and development of the capital territory, he said the current state of affairs would disappoint those who helped shape its original vision.
He warned that the challenges facing the FCT could become more difficult to address without urgent and deliberate action.
According to him, residents must take a greater interest in choosing their representatives, particularly the senator, whom he described as their closest link to the Federal Government.
“Your Senator is your closest link to government. This is why you must begin to pay closer attention to that office,” he said.
SDP Candidate Warns Against Electing Senators for Political Godfathers
The SDP candidate cautioned residents against electing a senator who would serve the interests of political godfathers instead of the people.
He argued that the office should be occupied by someone prepared to take responsibility for addressing the challenges facing the territory and representing the interests of its residents.
Osho also warned against choosing candidates solely because of their popularity, noting that electoral success driven by populist sentiments might not translate into effective representation.
He maintained that the next senator must present a clear and practical plan for addressing the FCT’s development needs across its six area councils.

Osho Urges FCT Voters to Reject Ethnic and Religious Sentiments
Osho further urged residents not to allow ethnic, religious or other primordial affiliations to determine their voting decisions at the expense of good leadership.
He said choices made in previous elections had contributed to the present situation, adding that decisions in the forthcoming polls would determine whether existing challenges would be addressed or passed on to future generations.
The candidate called on residents to reflect on the qualities they expect from their next senator and support individuals with the competence and commitment to deliver meaningful development.
“The coming days are calling on all of us to THINK SMARTLY, RETHINK WISELY and ACT MATURELY,” Osho said.
Osho is the Social Democratic Party’s candidate for the FCT senatorial seat.
