According to the group, there are intense reactions following the just concluded Delta State Executive Council meeting, where projects, including the Uromi junction, Agbor and Otowodo junction, Ughelli flyovers, were approved.

The group posited that, “The outcry from a cross section of Isoko nation social media influencer and agitators which was marked by widespread discontent and frustration is uncalled for”.

The group noted that, “The self-styled social critics and development agitators have launched scathing attacks not only on the State Government, alleging deliberate marginalization of Isoko nation in projects citing and development generally, but also on Isoko political leaders. These criticisms of the Isoko leaders for being incompetent and timid in confronting the Governor, and other unflattering descriptions is most unfortunate and uncharitable”.

They said that. “The backlash highlights the growing disillusionment among some Isoko citizens with both the State Government’s perceived neglect and their political leaders’ perceived ineffectiveness.

The Okugbe Isoko for Sheriff takes serious exceptions to these conclusions and the reactions of these critics. “We feel that to effectively agitate for government attention and development, it’s essential to adopt a constructive and respectful approach, rather than resorting to personal attacks and inflammatory rhetoric, critics can channel their energies into respectful dialogue, engaging in informed discussions, and collaborating with stakeholders to find solutions”, the group stated.

They added that, critics can bring attention to pressing issues without creating unnecessary antagonism, fostering a more productive and inclusive environment for meaningful development to thrive.

The group extends heartfelt gratitude to the Delta State Governor Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for prioritizing the Otowodo junction Flyover project, recognizing its immense significance to Isoko nation, as the gateway to Isoko nation, this junction serves as a vital link to major cities like Ughelli, Warri, Port Harcourt, and Lagos via the East-West Road. For years, the notorious gridlock at Otowodo junction has been a perennial nightmare for Isoko people, causing frustration and delays for those traveling to their communities.

They emphasize that “The project’s potential to alleviate this longstanding challenge, boost economic activities, and improve the lives of Isoko people is substantial, and we applaud the government’s foresight in approving this crucial infrastructure development. This mega project doesn’t has to be in Isoko soil before we appreciates it’s overall impact on the Isoko people.

The group also said that, the Delta State Government has dismissed claims of marginalizing the Isoko nation, citing 53 strategic projects across Isoko North and Isoko South local government areas as evidence of its commitment to equitable development. These projects span road infrastructure, healthcare upgrades, and education, including road constructions and rehabilitation, healthcare facility renovations, and significant interventions in Southern Delta University, Ozoro.

They further said that The government’s detailed response to the criticisms also underscores Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s open-door policy, demonstrating a willingness to listen to constructive feedback and engage with the community. This transparency and responsiveness suggest the administration is dedicated to a collaborative approach to governance, working towards a Delta that benefits all its citizens.

The group also said that the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori-led government’s unwavering commitment to the MORE Agenda, underscoring its dedication to infrastructural growth, economic empowerment, and the overall well-being of the people.
