Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the reinstatement of academic staff of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, who were sacked by former Godwin Obaseki.
The governor’s reinstatement order was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Ikhilor on December 2, 2024,
In recalling the sacked academics, Gov. Okpebholo, said that the lecturers were unlawfully disengaged from the service of the university by the defunct special intervention team in March, 2023 under the administration of former Gov. Obaseki.

It would be recalled that the staff, who were members of the institution’s branch of the Academic Staff Union of the University (ASUU), were unjustly relieved of their appointment following the agitation by staff of the institution for the payment of their outstanding salaries and other entitlements owed to them by the Obaseki administration.
“The government of Monday Okpebholo believes in the principle of natural justice, equity and good conscience, and will therefore not fail to correct any seeming injustice meted out on citizens of Edo State.
“This reinstatement therefore, is to demonstrate his excellency’s avowed commitment and adherence to the rule of law in governance at all times,” the statement added.
