Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, will on Tuesday leave Nigeria for Germany on a strategic working visit to strengthen the state’s partnership with the global construction giant, Julius Berger.
Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this during a press briefing in Asaba. He said the Governor will be accompanied by himself and the Technical Assistant to the Governor, noting that the trip is purely an official engagement focused on technical collaboration and project negotiations.
Aniagwu, flanked by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, and the Executive Assistant on Public Enlightenment, Projects and Policies, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, stressed that the visit was part of the administration’s drive to enhance infrastructure delivery and secure better construction terms for the state.
“The purpose of this visit is to strengthen our partnership with Julius Berger. His Excellency has proven negotiation skills, and this mission will help us obtain more favourable terms that will directly benefit Delta State,” Aniagwu said.
He dismissed any notion that the trip was for leisure, explaining that it was in line with the Governor’s commitment to prudent spending and accountability. He recalled that a previous foreign engagement with China led to the award of landmark contracts, including the ₦59 billion Agbor flyover and the ₦39 billion Otovwodo Junction flyover on the Warri–Patani Expressway.

Aniagwu also revealed that the forthcoming 2026 Delta State budget, estimated at about ₦1.5 trillion, will give strong priority to capital projects, infrastructure expansion, and social welfare. He said ministries are currently finalizing their proposals in line with the approved Medium-Term Expenditure Framework before presentation to the State Executive Council.
He further stated that Governor Oborevwori had directed that all empowerment programmes scheduled to begin next month must be transparent and inclusive across the 25 local government areas. The initiatives, he noted, will be coordinated by key ministries and agencies to create sustainable jobs and strengthen the state’s economy.
Aniagwu added that in the coming weeks, the state government will perform groundbreaking ceremonies for new multi-billion-naira projects, including the Otovwodo Junction flyover, as part of efforts to sustain the current momentum in infrastructure development.
He assured Deltans that political timelines will not slow the pace of governance, stressing that contractors have been instructed to maintain steady progress on all ongoing projects across the state.
