Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has inaugurated the Ozoro Ultra-Modern Market in Isoko North Local Government Area, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to providing infrastructure that supports trade, investment, job creation and economic growth across the state.

The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, said the facility was part of the administration’s efforts to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and improve the livelihoods of residents.

 

Oborevwori said the market would boost commercial activities, stimulate innovation, improve internally generated revenue and create opportunities for employment and wealth creation.

 

“My administration has an unwavering commitment to providing infrastructure that supports trade, investment and economic prosperity,” the Governor said.

 

He urged traders, buyers and entrepreneurs to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the market and called on stakeholders to ensure proper maintenance of the facility.

The Governor described the project as a symbol of the entrepreneurial spirit of the people of Ozoro and the wider Isoko Nation, noting their contributions to commerce, agriculture and public service.

 

He said the modern market would provide a conducive environment for traders, artisans and business owners to expand their businesses and contribute to the economic development of the community, Isoko North and Delta State.

Facilities at Ozoro Ultra-Modern Market

According to the Governor, the market comprises 28 lock-up shops, 192 open shops, eight upstairs packing stores, one warehouse, one cold room, four administrative offices, one market hall and two security posts.

 

The facility also has male and female toilet facilities, a central water scheme, external interlocking and horticultural works.

 

Oborevwori said the market was initiated by the Delta State Government to serve residents of Ozoro as well as traders and customers from neighbouring towns and communities.

 

He described the completion of the project as evidence of his administration’s commitment to continuity in governance and the completion of projects designed to benefit the people.

 

“Beyond providing a modern and organised trading environment, this facility will stimulate commercial activities, support small and medium-scale enterprises, enhance livelihoods and create opportunities for employment and wealth creation,” he said.

 

The Governor said the project would further strengthen Ozoro’s position as a commercial centre in the Isoko area.

 

“With this modern facility, we are laying a stronger foundation for sustainable economic activities and positioning Ozoro as an even more vibrant commercial hub,” he added.

Stakeholders Commend Delta Government

The member representing Isoko Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, Comrade Ovuozorie Macauley and the President of Market Women, Ozoro Kingdom, Mrs. Charity Awoh, commended the Delta State Government for constructing the facility.

 

They urged residents and traders to protect the market from vandalism and ensure that the facilities are properly maintained.

 

The President-General of Ozoro Kingdom, Chief Berkley Eloviano, described the project as a landmark demonstration of the state government’s commitment to economic development and improved livelihoods.

 

The Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Hon. Samuel Oligida, said the market would provide an improved platform for commercial activities and support traders and entrepreneurs in Ozoro and neighbouring communities.

250 Market Women Receive N200,000 Each

At the event, businessman Engr. Omoyibo Daniel supported 250 market women with N200,000 each, providing a total intervention of N50 million.

 

Earlier, the Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Council, Elder Godwin Ogorugba, said the ultra-modern market demonstrated continuity in governance.

 

He said the facility would provide a conducive environment for trading, create employment opportunities, stimulate economic activities, increase internally generated revenue and improve the livelihoods of residents.

 

The inauguration marks another major infrastructure project in Delta State aimed at strengthening local commerce and supporting economic activity at the grassroots.
