Former Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano has dismissed reports claiming he had died abroad, describing the rumour as an unnecessary distraction. In a personal message issued on Friday, Obiano assured the public that he remains in good health and urged Nigerians to ignore the false story.
He said he woke to messages about claims regarding his wellbeing and felt compelled to speak directly to the public. He stated that he is alive, hale, and in excellent condition, adding that he remains grateful for the prayers and concern expressed by many. Obiano thanked those who reached out and encouraged the public to disregard the rumour completely.
A similar clarification came from Don Adinuba, former Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment in Anambra State. He said the report circulating in some media outlets was unfounded. According to him, Obiano is healthy, strong, and currently living in Texas. He explained that the rumour of his death in London had no factual basis and praised the goodwill that poured in after the claim surfaced.

Adinuba noted that the reaction to the rumour showed how much the former governor still means to many people, almost four years after leaving office. He compared the false report to past unfounded claims about prominent Nigerian leaders, adding that Obiano remains active at seventy.
Obiano closed his message with appreciation to Ndi Anambra and all well-wishers, saying he remains focused and guided by God’s grace.
