The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has expressed concerns about the rising insecurity in Borno State, praising Governor Babagana Zulum for his determination to tackle the issue.
Obi shared his thoughts on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the alarming security problems in the Marte area of Borno State, calling for urgent measures to address the situation.
He commended Gov. Zulum for courageously spending time in areas affected by violence, stating that this kind of leadership is commendable.

Obi said that the rising violence in Borno State is not just a local issue but a national concern that requires immediate attention.
“The security situation in Borno is very worrying and needs to be taken seriously,” Obi stated. “What’s happening in Marte is alarming and cannot be ignored.”
He pointed out that Gov. Zulum’s choice to stay in a town facing danger shows what real leadership is about, being present, proactive, and focused on the people.
Obi believes Gov. Zulum’s actions should inspire those in power to take meaningful action, instead of just talking about it.
The former Anambra State governor stressed that the Tinubu administration must do everything it can to support the state and prevent terrorists from taking control of local areas.
He mentioned that over 300 communities are at risk, with more than 20,000 people displaced from their homes once again.
“These numbers represent real families and children whose lives are in jeopardy,” Obi added.
He underscored Gov. Zulum’s grave warnings about insurgents regrouping in surrounding areas and emphasised how crucial it is to act quickly before things get worse.
“These are serious issues. Acknowledging them is not enough; we need to respond immediately and earnestly,” he explained. “We can’t keep operating with delayed responses and indifferent governance.”
Obi called for more support for security forces and better protection for displaced individuals, stressing the need for decisive and compassionate leadership.
He concluded by saying that “this situation isn’t just about politics; it’s about caring for the people and safeguarding the future of our country.”
