The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has honoured the Director General of the One Voice, New Era Campaign Organisation, Mr. Philip Nyam, with the Award of Excellence in Legislative Reporting.
Nyam, who is also the National Assembly Correspondent for New Telegraph Newspapers, received the award during the 2026 NUJ FCT Press Week lecture held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

The award recognised his outstanding contributions to legislative journalism, particularly his depth, accuracy, and commitment to making parliamentary activities understandable and accessible to the public.
A former Chairman of the House of Representatives Press Corps and the NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel, Nyam was commended for his incisive, balanced and exclusive coverage of the National Assembly over the years.
The NUJ FCT Council also acknowledged his role as director general of the One Voice, New Era Campaign Organisation, the movement credited with mobilising support for the emergence of Comrade Grace Ike as the first female Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council.

Popularly known among colleagues as “Prof,” Nyam was described as not only an accomplished journalist, but also an experienced editor, media strategist and mentor who has contributed significantly to the growth of journalism practice within the FCT.
Presenting the award, the Chairman of NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, praised Nyam for setting high standards in legislative reporting.
“He doesn’t just report what happens in the chamber; he explains why it matters, who it affects, and what comes next,” she said.
Comrade Ike further described him as “a strategist and bridge-builder whose influence runs deep within the union.”
In his acceptance speech, Nyam dedicated the award to members of the One Voice, New Era Campaign Organisation and journalists committed to promoting accountability through responsible reporting.
“Legislative reporting is about understanding, not just access. If we get it right, democracy works better,” he stated.
He also expressed gratitude to God for the strength and opportunity to continue discharging his journalistic responsibilities.
Nyam commended the leadership of Comrade Grace Ike for what he described as transformative leadership within the NUJ FCT Council.
“I want to commend the Chairman of NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, and her team for recognising and honouring me with this award.
“I’m excited and I acknowledge the excellent work she is doing. It is unprecedented in the history of the union in the FCT, and I’m proud to have led the campaign for her election,” he said.
He further described Grace Ike as “a pacesetter” whose commitment to journalists’ welfare and unity within the council remains exceptional.
Nyam called on journalists within the FCT Council to continue supporting the “One Voice, New Era” administration to further strengthen and reposition the union.
