NUJ condemns sudden shut down of Edo govt owned electricity facility

Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) has condemned in its entirety what it described as the move to frustrate the state government’s effort to make life more meaningful in the state The Trumpet gathered.

The council said: “it is wicked, anti-progressive, anti-development and anti-people.”

The council was reacting to the sudden shut down of the operations of the Ossiomo Power Plant “credited to the Nigeria Gas Marketing Company, a subsidiary of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) which supplies gas to the Ossiomo Power Company with the collaboration of some officials of Electricity Distribution Company.”

It would be recalled that through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, Edo State Government secured approval for power supply through Ossiomo Power Plant to provide electricity to government offices, Ministries, Departments, Agencies and other public service establishments with the Secretariat of the Edo State Council of the NUJ been one of the beneficiaries.

According to the Council, “this move by the government, no doubt, has boosted and continues to boost social economic activities in the state, with many private initiatives and investors seeking to establish their presence in Edo.”
