In a major victory against banditry in northern Nigeria, security operatives have neutralized Kachalla Makore, a notorious bandit leader, along with several of his fighters in the Magami area of Gusau, Zamfara State. The operation took place on September 23, according to Zagazola Makama, a security outlet focused on the Lake Chad region.
Makore was reportedly en route to recover the body of fellow bandit leader Kachalla Sani Black, who had been killed earlier in the Dan Sadau area of Maru Local Government. Security forces, anticipating the move, launched a targeted strike that took down Makore and his men before they could complete their mission.
Sani Black, another notorious criminal, was eliminated hours earlier in Magama Mai Rake, a known hub for bandit activity. These back-to-back takedowns represent a major blow to the region’s banditry network, especially in areas like Kangon Garacci, where Makore had been operating since the death of his predecessor, Kachalla Damuna.

This latest success is part of an ongoing offensive by Nigerian troops to tackle banditry and insurgency in the northern region. Just days earlier, on September 11, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) thwarted a terrorist attack on Department of State Services (DSS) facilities in Niger State’s Shiroro LGA, killing 28 terrorists and scattering the remaining fighters.
The following day, gunmen kidnapped several travelers on a Zamfara highway, but security forces responded swiftly. On September 13, troops from Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) ambushed and killed Kachallah Buzu, another notorious bandit leader, recovering 30 motorcycles and a large cache of weapons, further crippling the group’s operational capacity.
In response to these successful operations, President Bola Tinubu commended the Nigerian Army and other security forces for their relentless fight against banditry and insurgency. Tinubu urged them to maintain momentum and assured the nation of his continued support in the effort to eradicate all security threats.
