Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Ayebo, popularly known as ‘Yemi My Lover’, has publicly accused music star Olamide of neglecting his phone calls for a staggering 180 days after referencing him in a song.
Yemi Ayebo disclosed this via a viral video in which he discussed whether artists and skit makers who adopt his iconic nickname ever offer him any form of compensation or acknowledgment.
In the video, Ayebo spoke fondly about Olamide’s decision to feature his name in his lyrics, expressing his initial excitement.
“Olamide was the first to use my name in his song, and I was overjoyed. You know that it’s a sweet soup that attracts different spoons; nobody ventures near a bad soup.
“My name is blessed by God, which is why both Davido, Olamide, and numerous skit makers are using it,” he remarked.
The actor, who rose to fame in the late ’90s for his romantic roles in various Nollywood films, recounted an interaction he had with another artist, Pasuma.
After Pasuma inquired if Yemi had received any form of “settlement” for the usage of his name in Olamide’s song, Ayebo replied that he had not.

This led Pasuma to reach out to Olamide, humorously suggesting that someone might be seeking police action against him for not properly crediting Yemi.
According to Ayebo, Olamide responded briefly, instructing him to obtain his number from Pasuma and contact him directly.
“I called Olamide for more than six months, yet he did not answer my calls. I even sent him messages, but he never replied,” Ayebo lamented.
While the actor has yet to receive any financial compensation, he acknowledged that having his name mentioned in popular music has reignited interest in his brand and legacy.
His video has since garnered mixed reactions online, with some fans urging Olamide to address the issue, while others argue that artists are not obligated to pay for casual name-drops in their songs.
