The Social Democratic Party (SDP) is championing a new wave of political inclusivity and integrity across Nigeria, according to its National Chairman, Shehu Gabam. In a recent interview on Channels TV’s Political Paradigm, the chairman outlined the party’s commitment to fostering a sense of belonging and equality for all Nigerians, from the grassroots to the national level.

Shehu emphasized that the SDP is creating an open and welcoming political platform for individuals across the nation. “We are opening up the political space to ensure every Nigerian feels represented. There are no preconditions for joining the SDP,” he said, citing a recent example where a prominent political figure from Borno State joined the party without any demands or negotiations.

Addressing rumors of a potential merger or alliance with other political parties, the chairman dismissed the claims, clarifying that the SDP is focused on building a robust platform for individual growth and collective progress. “We are not merging with any party. Our focus is on creating a space where individuals can join based on shared values and a commitment to Nigeria’s development,” he stated.

Shehu also criticized what he termed the “era of political mischief,” where opposition parties engage in misinformation to undermine the SDP’s growing influence. “If we were irrelevant, why would our actions cause panic among ruling party members?” he queried, noting the SDP’s growing support base nationwide.

Reflecting on his political journey, the chairman highlighted the SDP’s historic roots and its role in Nigeria’s democratic evolution. He lamented the erosion of foundational political values, attributing it to greed, selfishness, and a lack of accountability among the current generation of leaders.

“The older generation sacrificed for Nigeria’s stability. Today, despite greater exposure and education, our generation has allowed selfish ambitions to overshadow national progress,” he said, urging politicians to focus on strengthening individual and national potential.

The SDP faces challenges, including managing conflicting interests and ensuring fair electoral processes. However, the chairman expressed confidence in the party’s ability to navigate these obstacles. “The SDP remains a household name. What we need are credible leaders who can address Nigeria’s economic, security, and political challenges,” he explained.

He also called for electoral reforms to ensure a level playing field for all parties, warning against the monetization and personalization of Nigeria’s democracy.

The chairman reaffirmed the SDP’s commitment to building a stronger democracy, where votes count, and leaders prioritize the people’s welfare over personal ambition. He urged Nigerians to join the SDP’s movement for change, emphasizing the party’s readiness to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.

“Democracy is about the people, not coercion or intimidation. It’s time we worked together to rebuild trust and create a system that truly reflects the will of Nigerians,” he concluded.

As the SDP continues to gain momentum, political analysts view the party as a potential game-changer in Nigeria’s evolving political scene.
