The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, has alleged that his life and those of top management staff are under serious threat due to sweeping reforms he is spearheading in the oil and gas sector.
Ojulari, who was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with a mandate to revive the country’s long-dormant refineries, revealed that powerful interests within the sector are plotting to remove him from office. He made the disclosure on Thursday when he hosted a delegation of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), led by its president, Comrade Festus Osifo, at the NNPCL headquarters in Abuja.
The NNPCL GCEO explained that his only “offence” is implementing reform policies designed to restore transparency and efficiency in the corporation. He said that efforts are ongoing to revive the nation’s refineries to operate at full capacity, noting that the management is considering adopting the Nigeria LNG operational model to drive the turnaround.

Despite the threats, Ojulari maintained that he remains committed to delivering on the assignment given to him by the president. “I’m not hiding from anybody. I’m not a politician. I will have to learn a bit more about politics, but this is a development plan for me, and I’m ready to learn,” he stated.
He reassured PENGASSAN and industry stakeholders that the current leadership will not be intimidated into abandoning its mission to restore stability and productivity in the oil and gas industry.
