Like any other year, 2026 has seen a wave of surprising predictions from various influential church leaders and pastors across Nigeria. In the recently concluded year of 2025, numerous prophecies were shared in churches, but many of these predictions faded over time as a significant number did not come to fruition.

This pattern has become quite common within Nigeria’s Christian community, leading many to accept these forecasts, even when they often yield no tangible results. Consequently, many Christians have started to doubt the reliability of the Christian leaders who make prophecies that mostly do not materialize.

Some of the predictions from the previous year, 2025, can be recalled, including those made by prominent clergyman Pastor E.A. Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, who during a New Year’s Eve service, described the 2025 year as significant, highlighting themes like strong winds revealing secrets, promotions, weddings, divine assistance, and increased prayer against disasters.

As the year now fades away like a shadow, many Christians could not ascertain what they could count as confirmation to these prophecies although there were few testimonies among members.

Similarly, Primate Elijah Ayodele, the Founder and Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church in Lagos, Nigeria, who focused many of his predictions on politics revealed many things that will happen in 2025 as revealed to him by God.

Some of these prophecies warned that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would face dire consequences if President Tinubu failed to secure a second term.

He revealed that if Tinubu did not achieve his re-election goal, the APC would be severely weakened. “If Tinubu fails, the APC will go into a coma; if the coalition survives, the PDP will be affected, but if they fail, the PDP will bounce back.”

He outlined potential scenarios for the 2027 election, suggesting that the coalition might leverage American influence against Tinubu, including a drug-related case, as he noted that Trump does not favor Tinubu.

He expressed skepticism about the governors Tinubu is recruiting to the party, stating that Wike would not help Tinubu win and that their rivalry would persist.

He also mentioned that Adelabu, who was expected to be the governor of Oyo State, would not succeed.

Looking far ahead, he predicted that in 22 years, the Eko Atlantic would be submerged, asserting that while Tinubu has the potential for a second term, he would ultimately fail due to his allies working for the opposition.

He expressed a desire to meet with Tinubu but indicated that it was fine if the president chose not to.

He warned that electoral rigging would reach unprecedented levels and that INEC offices would be targeted due to this.

His predictions seem to be aligning with the recent involvement of the US in Nigeria’s security issues, which could lead to further complications.

He also noted, “Some northern elders will oppose Tinubu.

He needs to engage with the South-East, North-Central, and North-East regions and be ready for potential blackmail.” In the realm of sports, Ayodele predicted that a former FIFA president would pass away and cautioned FIFA to be vigilant to prevent turmoil within its ranks in 2025 and that has not come to pass either.

Pastor Jerry Eze also shared his prophecies for 2025, declaring it a year of divine intervention, restoration, and the emergence of figures like Joseph, Esther, and Daniel, while warning that neglecting prayer could have dire consequences.

As 2026 begins, new predictions are emerging across Nigeria, with many focusing on both national and global issues.

Ayodele’s prophecies for 2026 stated that the 2027 general election will be highly competitive, determined not just by party loyalty but by “integrity, delivery, and substance.”

Additionally, Dr. Daniel Olukoya, the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, predicted unusual incidents and fire-related disasters in 2026, which he predicts will be a fast-paced, unpredictable, and spiritually challenging year.

He said calamity, stating that the challenges of 2025 will carry over into 2026 if prayers are not activated.

In contrast, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God expressed a more optimistic view, describing 2026 as “more remarkable than 2025.” During the church’s crossover service at Redemption Camp in Lagos.

“wind that has been blowing since 2024” would continue to strengthen.

He however, predicted that the year would bring more opportunities, breakthroughs, successes, and victories, with fewer failures, and that many testimonies in 2026 would begin with the phrase, “God remembered me at last.”

As these prophecies have surfaced, many are looking to the esteemed spiritual leaders to determine whether these predictions will come true, since both predictions are parallel, yet predicted for one nation.

This is coming when many Nigeria’s Christians are constantly praying to God for relief from their hardships, and if the outcomes do not align with what the clergy have foretold, it could negatively impact their faith.

In the Christian tradition, prophecies are meant to provide guidance, emphasizing the importance of faith, action, and prayer, particularly during times of anticipated uncertainty.

Nigeria defeat Algeria 2–0 to reach AFCON Semifinals, set up clash with hosts Morocco Paul Joseph Nigeria booked their place in the semifinals of the Africa Cup of Nations with a commanding 2–0 victory over Algeria on Saturday, setting up a high-stakes showdown against host nation Morocco. The Super Eagles delivered a disciplined and clinical performance to see off a resilient Algerian side, continuing their strong run in the tournament. The win sends Nigeria into the AFCON semifinals, where they will face Morocco, a matchup that carries added intrigue given the history between both teams. Nigeria and Morocco have each recorded two wins against one another in previous AFCON meetings, adding an extra edge to the looming encounter. Earlier in the day, Morocco secured their own semifinal ticket after defeating Cameroon 2–0 in Rabat. The result marked the Atlas Lions’ return to the AFCON final four for the first time since 2004, sparking celebrations among home supporters. Backed by a vocal crowd and buoyed by momentum, Morocco are now one victory away from reaching the final on home soil. The quarterfinal clash between Nigeria and Algeria was tightly fought in the opening half, with both teams cancelling each other out in a physical and tactically intense contest. Chances were limited, and the teams went into the break locked at 0–0. Nigeria emerged with greater purpose after halftime and broke the deadlock almost immediately. Victor Osimhen rose highest to power home a header in the 47th minute, giving the Super Eagles a crucial lead. The goal shifted the balance of the game and forced Algeria to chase the match. Ten minutes later, Osimhen turned provider, delivering the assist for Akor Adams, who finished calmly to double Nigeria’s advantage. The second goal effectively sealed the result, as Nigeria managed the remainder of the game with confidence and composure. The victory reinforces Nigeria’s status as one of the tournament favourites and sets the stage for a blockbuster semifinal against Morocco, with a place in the AFCON final at stake. All eyes will now be on the clash between the Super Eagles and the Atlas Lions as both sides chase continental glory.
