Former Nollywood star, Belinda Effah, now referred to as Grace Bassey, has officially enlisted in the United States Navy and obtained U.S. citizenship, signaling a significant change in her life away from acting.
The 33-year-old actress announced this development on her Instagram page, sharing a picture of herself in military uniform and expressing her appreciation to God, her family, and her supporters throughout her journey.
“Recently, I completed my training at the U.S. Navy boot camp as a sailor and took an oath to become a citizen of the United States,” she posted.
“Nigeria shaped me, America tested me, and today, I stand here more resilient and driven than ever.”
She dedicated this achievement to her deceased father, Naval Commander Asido Effah, by stating, “this is in memory of my late father, Naval Cdr. Asido Bassey Effah.”
Grace Bassey described her name change from Belinda as a result of what she refers to as a spiritual awakening.

She explained that the name Belinda, translating to “beautiful serpent,” had ceased to resonate with her true self following a divine experience.
“God transformed my name to Grace after a spiritual encounter,” she shared.
“This change embodies a personal rebranding, though my fundamental values and identity remain unchanged.”
She gained recognition in the Nigerian film industry as Belinda Effah, featuring in several well-known Nollywood films before stepping away from the acting scene.
This new chapter represents a significant pivot in her personal and professional journey as she begins a military career in the U.S.
