Nigeria wins World Debate Championship in Qatar

Nigeria has emerged the winner of the World Debate Championship held in Qatar, with its representatives from Delta State defeating teams from the United States and the host nation.

The final stage of the global competition featured Nigeria, the State of Chicago (USA), and Qatar. Nigeria, represented by students from Delta State, had earlier won the National Debate Championship organized by the President’s School Debate Nigeria under the Presidency.

In the semi-finals, the Nigerian team overcame Qatar with a 2-1 victory. They then went on to defeat Chicago 3-0 in the final round, sealing a total score of 5-1 to emerge champions.

The team was led to Qatar by the Chairman of the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Samuel Marierie, who coordinated the delegation and represented the state’s educational authority.

Before their departure, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, received the students at Government House, Asaba. He prayed for their success and encouraged them to bring the trophy home — a goal they have now achieved.
