Nigeria survived a fierce challenge from Ghana to secure a hard-fought 3-2 victory in their second Group C match at the 2026 African Senior Women’s Nations Volleyball Championship in Kenya.
The Nigerian side, reigning ANOCA Zone 3 champions, won 25-21 in the opening set, but Ghana responded strongly to take the second set by the same score and level the contest.
Nigeria regained the advantage in the third set, dominating 25-11 to move within one set of victory.
Ghana, however, refused to back down, producing another spirited display to win the fourth set 25-11 and force a deciding fifth set.
The final set delivered a thrilling finish as both teams battled point for point. Nigeria eventually held their nerve to edge Ghana 18-16 and claim the crucial 3-2 victory.

Speaking after the match, Nigeria head coach Elishama Elam praised his players for their fighting spirit, while acknowledging the strong challenge posed by Ghana.
“This win means a lot to the entire team because we need to win and stand a chance of progressing to the next stage,” Elam said.
“The girls played with their heart and I expect them to do the same in the next match against Cameroon.”
Nigeria will round off their Group C campaign against Cameroon on Thursday, August 27, in a match that could prove decisive in determining their progression to the next stage.
