Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the 2025 Hajj exercise. The agreement was signed during a bilateral meeting, signaling renewed collaboration between the two nations.

The MoU was signed on behalf of Nigeria by Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, represented by the Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Prof. Abdullahi Saleh Usman. Representing Saudi Arabia, the Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr. Abdulfattah Mashat, underscored Saudi Arabia’s commitment to enhancing the Hajj experience for Nigerian pilgrims.

The 2025 Hajj preparations are already in full swing, building on the foundation laid by previous agreements. Key activities include the fourth edition of the Hajj Conference and Exhibition, a platform that brings together stakeholders from various sectors to improve the quality of services provided to pilgrims.

Speaking on the longstanding partnership between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Tuggar highlighted the importance of these MoUs in ensuring Nigerian pilgrims receive optimal care. “These agreements outline the responsibilities of both nations, guaranteeing that Nigerian pilgrims enjoy adequate services, including accommodation, transportation, and healthcare, for a spiritually enriching Hajj experience,” he said.

The signing ceremony, held amidst high-level representation, was attended by notable dignitaries, including Senator Abubakar Sani Bello, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Aliyu Ikara Bilbis, Hon. Jafar Shatiman Borgu, and Ambassadors Muazam Ibrahim Nayaya and Mahmud Lele. Also present was Dr. Modibo Umar, Nigeria’s Charge d’Affaires in Riyadh.

This MoU reaffirms the strong bilateral ties between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, setting the stage for a well-coordinated and memorable pilgrimage in 2025. The focus remains on ensuring the welfare of pilgrims and enhancing the spiritual essence of the Hajj journey.
