A non-governmental organization, West Africa Action Network On Small Arms (WAANSA) Nigeria has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on his emergence as ECOWAS Chairman.
According to the statement signed by its President Temitope Lamidi and Director of Programs Engr. Mazi George-Okoli Chidi, the group said Tinubu’s emergence is coming at a time when Africa is in dire need of good leadership.
The state reads :
“We write to express our joy at your emergence as the Chairman of the Authority of Leaders of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

“This very important honour given to your Excellency comes at the right time when West Africa needs leadership with exceptional political will to tackle the menace of political conflict, insecurity and climate change which collectively remain threats towards the realization of sustainable development goals.
“With the already promise to take democracy seriously, we humbly appeal to your excellency to combine it with poverty alleviation, security with special consideration to the illegal proliferation of small arms and light weapons, regional border security and climate change mitigation. Democratic ideals cannot be realised in a polity ravaged by poverty and conflict hence holistically addressing these menace remains an overt step to take renewed hope to the regional political landscape.” The statement concludes.
