The Delta State Command of the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS) has dismissed a Deputy Commander, Mr. Peter Obus, over what it described as continual contravention of the service’s code of conduct.

The dismissal, which took effect from November 8, 2025, was conveyed in a letter dated the same day and endorsed by the Assistant Commandant General (Administration), Akeem Oseni, on behalf of the NFSS national headquarters, Abuja.

The dismissal letter said Mr. Obus was found to have repeatedly violated laid-down rules and regulations of the service despite several disciplinary measures taken against him.

He has consequently been directed to submit all NFSS properties in his possession, including his membership identity card, to the Delta State Command.

The letter revealed that the dismissed officer had earlier been suspended from service through a letter dated July 2, 2024, following a series of warnings bordering on alleged gross misconduct, unruly behaviour, and multiple breaches of the service’s code of conduct.

It further stated that although the National Executive Committee of the NFSS, in a decision reached on November 11, 2024, reinstated him as a second chance and admonished him to maintain good conduct, he allegedly continued to violate the organisation’s rules.

“Having exhausted all available disciplinary actions to correct you, but all efforts are in futility, the National Executive Council has taken a final action by approving your dismissal from the NFSS to serve as a deterrent to other officers,” the letter read in part.

Meanwhile, sources at the Nigeria Forest Security Service national headquarters disclosed that the dismissed deputy commander allegedly forged the signature of the Inspector-General of police and produced an identity card bearing the Nigeria Police Force logo, presenting himself as a deputy superintendent of police in collaboration with the NFSS.

It was further alleged that Mr. Obus had addressed himself as a DSP in a March edition of The Pointer newspaper.

Sources also claimed that he engaged in fraudulent activities by issuing similar forged identity cards to over 100 unsuspecting job seekers who were purportedly recruited into the NFSS as intelligence officers, allegedly extorting various sums of money from them in the process.

The dismissal letter was copied to relevant security agencies, including the commissioner of police, Delta State Command; the state commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC); the commanding officer of the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Asaba; the commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA); and the director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Delta State.
