The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has formally unveiled Eric Chelle, a highly regarded Malian coach, as the new head coach of Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles. The historic event took place at the Package A Football Stadium, with top sports officials, dignitaries, and stakeholders in attendance.
Malam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of Nigeria’s Sports Commission, expressed his excitement over the appointment, emphasizing that it was a collective decision by the NFF and not a unilateral one. He urged Nigerians to embrace the new coach and avoid actions or rumors that could lead to public unrest. Instead, he called for collective support to help advance Nigerian football under the current administration.

During the unveiling, Eric Chelle officially signed the agreement solidifying his role as head coach. He expressed deep gratitude to the NFF for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the Super Eagles, pledging to propel the team to greater global success. In his words, “I am honored by this opportunity and promise to do my best to uplift Nigerian football to its rightful place on the global stage.”
Chelle also addressed the media, highlighting his admiration for the Super Eagles. “Nigeria is my favorite team. I follow their matches regularly. I believe time is every coach’s biggest challenge, but I am ready to give my all.”
NFF Chairman Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau disclosed that two assistant coaches would be attached to Chelle to strengthen the technical team. He reiterated the federation’s confidence in the 37-year-old’s ability to deliver results, describing him as “the right man for the job.”
Dignitaries at the ceremony included Shehu Dikko, a former Nigerian coach now leading Ghana’s Black Stars, and other notable figures in the sports industry. The event concluded with Chelle being decorated with a Nigerian jersey, muffler, and an official tag, symbolizing his new role.
This milestone marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Super Eagles, with fans and stakeholders hopeful that Eric Chelle’s tenure will restore the team to its former glory.
