Nembe City FC of Ogbolomabiri delivered a stunning performance to emerge as champions of the Nembe Local Government Area in the ongoing 2025 Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament, widely celebrated as the Prosperity Cup. In a high-energy showdown at the Nembe City Stadium, the Nembe boys overpowered Okoroba FC 4-0, thrilling fans and officials, including LGA Chairman Hon. David Alagoa and top political aides.
The match kicked off with early fireworks as Ebinyo Victor gave Nembe City the lead just three minutes into the game with a clean finish from a right-wing cross. Abraham Ayibaitari stole the spotlight, netting a brilliant hat trick with goals in the 14th, 47th, and 82nd minutes, leaving Okoroba FC stunned and outclassed in front of their home crowd. His performance marked the second hat trick of the ongoing LGA finals and reinforced Nembe City’s dominance.
With this victory, Nembe City FC joins the ranks of other local champions, including Crusaders FC of Ekeremor and Adaka FC of Kolokuma/Opokuma, all advancing to the state-level stage of the tournament.
Hon. David Alagoa, speaking after the game, praised Governor Douye Diri for initiating what has become Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football spectacle. He emphasized the tournament’s role in uniting youths and discovering hidden talents across Bayelsa, expressing confidence that players from the competition will one day represent Nigeria on the international stage. He described the competition as a force for social cohesion, beyond just the prize money and accolades.

Nembe City FC head coach, Raphael Affagi, credited the win to the squad’s resilience and hunger for success. He affirmed their focus now shifts to the round of 32, where they aim to dominate at the state level. On the other side, Okoroba FC’s coach, Ekwere Itoro, remained optimistic, stating that the tournament has provided his team with invaluable exposure and the chance to make their community proud.
Team captain Monday Kuki expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for the triumph, celebrating the team’s hard work and unity throughout the tournament.
For their stellar performance, Nembe City FC was awarded a cash prize of one million naira, while runners-up Okoroba FC received five hundred thousand naira.
As the Prosperity Cup LGA finals gain momentum, attention now shifts to Sagbama LGA on Monday, May 12, 2025, where defending champions Agbere FC of Agbere will clash with Indomitable FC of Sagbama at the Sagbama Council Field.
