The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) of the Nigerian Navy Special Operations Command, Rear Admiral Olusegun Soyemi, has conducted his maiden operational assessment visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in Maiduguri, Borno State.

According to a statement released by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the two-day visit, held from November 12 to 13, was aimed at strengthening coordination among the Armed Forces and enhancing joint counter-terrorism operations across the North East.

Rear Admiral Soyemi said the visit provided a platform to assess operational readiness, review achievements, identify challenges, and outline strategies to improve overall mission effectiveness in line with the Navy’s Special Operations Command objectives.

He underscored the importance of inter-service collaboration and operational synergy, which he said foster flexibility, resilience, and greater information dominance in the theatre. “The Nigerian Navy’s intervention in the North East will serve as a force multiplier in the fight against insurgency and terrorism, advancing our strategic objectives and national security while promoting regional economic growth,” Soyemi said.

The FOC reaffirmed that the Navy’s Special Operations Command would continue to support the nation’s security priorities through improved command coordination, particularly under the Naval Base Lake Chad, which plays a pivotal role in maritime and inland security operations.

Rear Admiral Soyemi commended the OPHK units for their detailed briefings during the visit, describing them as “insightful and action-driven.” He assured that issues raised by field commanders would be escalated to relevant naval authorities for swift resolution.

Welcoming the naval chief, the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, expressed appreciation for the Navy’s sustained contributions to joint operations, noting that its role had been instrumental in enhancing mission outcomes.

“The future of the battlespace depends on our ability to dominate it. We must secure it not only for safety but for its vital economic significance,” Abubakar said, reaffirming the military’s unified resolve to stabilize the region and ensure lasting peace.

The visit by Rear Admiral Soyemi marks a renewed commitment to joint force effectiveness as the Nigerian Armed Forces intensify counter-terrorism operations in the Lake Chad Basin and other volatile areas of the North East.
