The Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Adm. Olusola Oluwagbire, has solicited the cooperation of riverine communities to check activities of sea pirates along the waterways in Akwa Ibom state.
Speaking at Naval Command NNS Jubilee, Ikot Abasi on Thursday during an inspection of the base and other facilities Oluwagbire stated that the command need assistance from host communities through information to stem the tide of incessant sea pirates attacks on fishermen.
“We are coming to smoke sea pirates out of the waterways, we will get them and we will roast them”.
Oluwagbire explained that he was in Akwa Ibom as part of his maiden inspection of the base and units of the naval command since his assumption of office.

He charged the commander to step up operations of the command, using available facilities for effective coverage of the waterways.
He solicited the cooperation of the public to give useful information to the command to apprehend the criminal elements in the waterways.
“There is one aspect of security that most people don’t understand, is not only the security agency’s business but is everybody’s business.
“If you see something, share it with the security agencies, so that it can help better the society.
“We are together, we will do it and make the waterways safe and better,” he said.
