Two years after the tragic passing of the renowned artist Mohbad in September 2023, Naira Marley, the CEO of Marlian Records and the late singer’s former boss, has finally addressed the incident in a much-anticipated YouTube video titled: “My side of the story.”

The controversial Afrobeat star, Azeez Fashola, faced numerous allegations following the shocking death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as Mohbad, who died at the tender age of 27.

The circumstances surrounding his death have been a hot topic, often fueling a wave of speculation and intense criticism directed towards Marley.

In his video statement, Naira Marley disclosed that he was in Amsterdam at the time of Mohbad’s passing and initially learned about the tragedy through social media.

This revelation is significant as it sheds light on his actual location and knowledge of the events that transpired, amidst rampant speculation linking him to Mohbad’s untimely demise.

The relationship between Naira Marley and Mohbad had reportedly deteriorated before the latter’s death.

In October 2022, Mohbad publicly leveled serious accusations against Marley, claiming he had been a victim of physical assault and mistreatment while under the management of Marlian Records.

The rift ultimately led Mohbad to terminate his contract with the label, suggesting a tumultuous professional and personal relationship that has drawn considerable attention.

Marley’s decision to break his silence comes nearly two years after public outrage intensified following Mohbad’s death.

Fans and critics had been eagerly awaiting his perspective on the unfolding events, particularly in light of the negative assumptions surrounding his involvement.

A court ruling in February 2025 cleared Naira Marley and two others of any wrongdoing related to Mohbad’s death, providing a measure of legal vindication and alleviating the burden of extensive scrutiny from the music community and the public.

The tragic death of Mohbad in September 2023 ignited widespread outrage and calls for justice, with many figures within the Nigerian music industry and beyond vocalizing their demands for accountability and transparency regarding the circumstances of his demise.

The case has remained a focal point of public discourse, with various investigations and testimonies contributing to the ongoing dialogue.
