The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) took decisive action on Wednesday by destroying a staggering 491,000 225mg tablets of tramadol in Kano.
NAFDAC Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Dr. Martins Iluyomade, oversaw the destruction process, which was conducted under the authority of the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye.
Prof. Adeyeye detailed the circumstances surrounding the seizure of the drugs, indicating that the Nigeria Customs Service, specifically the Kano/Jigawa Command, played a pivotal role in the seizure of the drugs.
She said the customs successfully intercepted the shipment on May 28, 2025, thwarting the illicit attempts of unscrupulous individuals seeking to smuggle the dangerous medication into Nigeria.
“The consignment, which was abandoned by the smugglers after being detected by customs operatives, was packed in 491 separate rolls, amounting to a staggering duty value of N91 million,” Prof. Adeyeye stated.
